Getting the perfect Fender Jazz Bass sound
I'm playing a Fender Jazz bass (MIM) and I'm having a really hard time getting the sound I want. One problem I'm having is that I play really hard and my strings always buzz on the neck, I've taken it in to shops but it seems like nobody can straighten out the problem. I'm using rotosound strings and I've been really happy with those. What I'm really wondering is what other people have done to their J basses to make them sound better, new bridge? pickup guards? new pickups? All tips are appreciated, thanks.

Hi Nick
When you say a BUZZ do you mean an electrical buzz that goes quite when you touch the strings?
my experience extends to public address systems and keyboards, mikes, lighting etc. but I have had that awful noise coming from combos in the past even from a well grounded keyboard.
the older valve sets were the worst....

Hey Nick,
Use your thumb to bounce off the string. Beginners tend to keep their thumb in place even after the slapping. The string becomes mute and prevents from ringing. You can bounce your thumb. Also, slap over the last frets on the board. Do not go anywhere near the bridge or pickups. Remember to practice always!
Hope this helps.
